Additional Facts

  • The theatre could hold around 550 people inside.

I chose to research this theater because of multiple reasons: I really liked the fact that people or the managers of the theatre did not let this place fall apart, for example people were struck by the second World War, just because people’s families were involved in the war half of the people that were taking part of the theatre staff were gone so there wasn't any staff members to watch upon the theatre , it almost closed in 1953, but it started functioning back in 1927.

One fun fact about this theater is the fact that this was the first suburban theatre in Salem in that time, also the first movie that came out at the theatre and was running for the first time was “Seven Days” and then it would be followed up by “The General”.  I also chose this because I come from a pretty small town so I know that it is pretty important to have some things of entertainment to do during the weekend . Here are some pictures with the exterior of the theatre

This brings me back nostalgia, i would use to have something like this back in my hometown and when it would snow the magic of everybody in the family being back together and the times that we would go together at the cinema did make my childhood and the cherry on top would be the snow that makes the cinema and the streets look prettier. Coming from Europe I always was interested in European Architecture and it has Spanish chandeliers with a blue and gold color palette and gold curtains. Learning things about America back in Europe we would learn things about films and movies and I remember I would be amazed learn things about films and movies and I remember I would be amazed by the way the movies were promoted in the theatre's and the teasers for the movies. Probably this is just a cultural thing but I always would want to go to the cinema because of these fliers that would promote the movies that were up to watch for example these ones that I presented above were old styled advertisements/posters . One of them was already showing the fact that the cinema will be open soon and often they would have promotions for their tickets, something that seemed really interesting was the difference of the prices for cinema tickets nowadays compared to the old times. In the specific flier we would see that only one ticket is 15 cents and nowadays a ticket for watching a movie can go up to 20 dollars. It eventually closed in 1971.
