The Mt.Hood Theatre is located at 401 E Powell Blvd, Gresham, OR 97030. The theatre opened in 1950 under its original owner, Henry Moyer. The theatre was then sold to Robert Mills and his wife, Marjorie Mills, also known as “Marge”. The original name was Hood Theatre. After taking ownership, Marge and Robert renamed it to Mt. Hood Theatre. Marge was born on March 27, 1919, in Seattle, Washington. She studied music while attending Seattle University. She married Robert in 1941 at the University of Portland Chapel, and they eventually had six children.
By the people in the neighborhood, Marge was considered the queen of the screen. Marge was a member of the Saint Henry Catholic Church and participated in the altar society. Marge was known for her kindness and uplifting spirit. She also put her music studies to use, often singing at funerals as part of her job at a Gresham funeral home. Mt. Hood Theatre had a big part in the Gresham community. The theatre was once described as a hotspot for teenagers and a place full of memories. Some people who have grown up attending this particular theatre, and who still live in the neighborhood, continue to show support for the theatre.
In 1999, Marge and Robert sold the theatre to Lance Tillotson. In 2002, Robert had passed away, and Marge then spent the last few years of her life at the assisted living facility, Miramont Pointe.
