Children at Tower Theatre

Children going to the movies is never going to go out of style. Families bring their kids to theaters so that movies can be enjoyed altogether. At Tower Theatre, children have always been welcome. Children were often admitted free at the theatre for special events, but prices were cheapest for kids. Price reductions happened in 1940 where matinees became cheaper than regular showings. Children's tickets would cost 10 cents at any time of the day, but were only available on bargain nights which were Wednesdays and Thursdays. With the opening of the Tower Theatre Club which also started in 1940, kids up to 15 years of age could see a movie for free when filling out the correct membership form. These membership forms could be filled out at some stores around town and near the Tower. The theater was interested in the younger generation because of how they could make a real change in the moviegoing world. Children being admitted for free and lower costs meant the theater would bring in lots of kids wanting to see movies for the first time, or even show films that many kids have seen and want to see again. Bringing in such a large crowd of the younger generation meant more outreach for the theater, leading to more profits and a better standing overall. I think the decision to make a club for kids to see movies brought a lot of attention to the theater itself, also making it known that this theater supports these kids and wishes them well in the real world. With the support of not only the adults throughout the community, but their kids as well, goes to show how supportive this theater is in trying to be inclusive to all ages. There was not a lot of information about kids viewings for other events, like fight nights, fashion shows, and other screenings, but since they made things like a club for kids, children were still eager to show up and participate as much as they could.
